
You must have an active student, faculty, or staff affiliation and a valid PennKey in order to use the University's Grammarly for Education service. Wharton is providing licenses for users who participated in the 2025 Grammarly for Education Pilot through Spring 2026. From July 2026, users will need to license Grammarly from their own budgets.
About Grammarly for Education
Grammarly for Education is an AI-assisted writing assistant, providing suggestions for grammar, spelling, punctuation, unclear sentences, usage of commonly confused words, incorrect citation style formatting, and tone and clarity. It works on multiple platforms including on desktops client, mobile devices, and in browsers and offers real-time feedback on various aspects of writing, such as grammatical errors, punctuation, and style elements.
Grammarly for Education is available as:
- A browser extension
- Web-based service
- Desktop app (Mac, Windows)
- Mobile device keyboards
Generally, University data classified as "high" (including PII, PCI, and HIPAA) is not permissible in Grammarly. If you're interested in using Grammarly with HIPPA data, please contact the Wharton Information Security Office.
How to Sign up
ISC's Grammarly Pilot ended in December 2025, however Wharton is maintaining the cost of licenses for existing users through June 2027. Wharton full-time faculty, staff and PhDs can request a Grammarly account by contacting Client Support Services at computing@wharton.upenn.edu.
Installing Grammarly on your Wharton Computer
You can install the latest version of the Grammarly desktop client on Wharton Managed computers by using BigFix or JAMF self-service. This will install the Grammarly client on your computer without the need for an administrator password.
