Print From Your Laptop to Wharton Printers

Anyone with a Wharton printing account can configure their laptop to print to the Wharton printers. Printing via mobile devices is also available using email – see our article on Email Printing.
Before You Start
You will need one or more of the following before you can complete this task:
- A personal computer running either Windows or MacOS
- Internet access
- PennKey credentials
Configure your laptop to print to the Wharton printers by doing the following:
Windows Laptops
These laptop configuration steps are supported for the most recent Windows versions.
Step 1: Download and Install the Print Queue Application
- Click on this link to save the Print Queue application to your laptop:
(DO NOT follow the attached ReadMe file; instead, follow the directions below to install.)
Wharton Student Print Queue Application
- Double-click on the downloaded file to launch it.
- Accept the warning that appears saying that the file is from an Unknown Publisher.
- Choose Install to begin the Print queue Installation and follow the prompts to complete it.
Windows 7 / Windows 8 / Windows 10 Users: You may only see one printer in Devices and Printers after installing the new drivers. You should still see both print queues when you try to print a document.
Step 2: Send A Document to the Print Queue
- Send a document to the Print queue by choosing File > Print.
- Select either the Wharton Black and White or the Wharton Color queue.
- Click Print.
- A popup window will appear asking for your username or Logon ID: enter your Pennkey.
Pharos Updater: If the Pharos updater window pops up, let it run.
Step 3: Print to A Wharton Printer
- Go to the printer you would like to print from. For a list of locations, see Overview -- Wharton's Network Printers.
- Black & White documents can be released from any color printer.
- Launch the PharosSRH application from the display panel.
- Tap your Penn Card on the proximity reader to the right of the display (you should hear the reader "chirp" as the card is read and the green light will flash).
- After tapping your card, it may take a few seconds for the printer to display the print queue.
- Select the document you want to print and tap the Print button. If there are multiple jobs in the print queue that you would like to print, you can select all of those documents and hit Print, or choose the Print All button.
- From the Select A Document screen, you can view your print account balance. To view details about your print account, tap the Account button.
Macs
These laptop configuration steps are supported for recent Mac versions.
Step 1: Download and Install the Print Queue Application
First time Installation
- Download the print queue application, Wharton Printers Config, below.
(DO NOT follow the attached ReadMe file; instead, follow the directions below to install.) Wharton Printers Config
- Double-click the Wharton Printers Config-MAC.zip file to extract the contents of the zipped up folder. If the file does not expand automatically, choose the option to Expand the File.
- To bypass Gatekeeper's settings, run the app by right clicking on the Wharton Printers Config application and selecting Open; the following window will then be displayed:

Click Open to run the application. - Proceed through the installation accepting the defaults; you will need to enter an administrator’s username and password (username will already be filled in if you’re running your Mac as an admin) during the installation.
- When the installation is finished, you will see a message stating Wharton Student Printers were successfully added to your Mac.
Re-Installation
(For users who already had Wharton's Printers configured on their laptops.)
- Download the print queue application, Wharton Printers Config, below.

Double-click the Wharton Printers Config-MAC.zip file to extract the contents of the zipped up folder. If the file does not expand automatically, choose the option to Expand the File.
To bypass Gatekeeper's settings, run the app by right clicking on the Wharton Printers Config application and selecting Open; the following window will then be displayed:

Click Open to run the application. If you are running this app with the printers and/or just the Pharos Popup Client already installed, you’ll be prompted with a warning message before continuing.
- Uninstalling and Reinstalling. Select Uninstall Pharos to bring up the Pharos uninstaller (to uninstall the printers and/or Pharos). After selecting “Uninstall Pharos”, a notification window will be displayed asking for administrator credentials to run the uninstall portion of the app - enter an administrator’s username and password (username will already be filled in if you’re running your Mac as an admin), and select OK.
- Installing over existing install. Choose Continue Anyway to continue installing/reinstalling the printers with your existing install of Pharos.
- Restart your machine, and follow the First Time Installation directions (Steps 1-5 above).
Duplex Printing
To enable your Mac to print double-sided, you need to allow Duplexing.
- Open System Preferences and click on the Print & Fax icon.
- Select the Wharton Black and White printer, and choose Advanced. (Duplex printing is not recommended for Color documents.)
- Select the Options tab and check the Duplex box.
- Click OK and OK.
Step 2: Print to A Wharton Printer
To print a document to a Wharton printer, do the following:
- Send a Document to the Print Queue:
- Choose Print from the File menu of your application and select whether you want Black & White or Color. Jobs sent to the print queues are held for 5 hours; Black& White documents can be released from any color printer.
- A popup window will appear asking for your Wharton ID, enter your Pennkey username.
- Print Out Your Document on a Wharton Printer:
- Go to the printer type you selected.
- Launch the PharosSRH application from the display panel.
- Tap your Penn Card on the proximity reader to the right of the display (you should hear the reader "chirp" as the card is read and the green light will flash).
Note: After tapping your card, it may take a few seconds for the printer to display the print queue. - Select the document you want to print and click the Print button. If there are multiple jobs in the print queue that you would like to print, you can select multiple jobs and click the Print button, or click the Print All button.
- From the Select A Document screen, you can view your print account balance. To view details about your print account, click the Account button.
Printing to the B&W queue does not guarantee your job will be printed in B&W. To ensure your documents print properly, please check your print job settings before sending them to the printer.
